Skyfall (2012) is the twenty-third Spy Film in the
James Bond Series produced by EON Production and distributed by
MGM and Sony Pictures Entertainment . It features Daniel
Craig's third performance as James Bond , and Javier Bardem as Raoul
Silva, the film's villain. The film was directed by Sam Mendes and
written by John Logan, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade.
James Bond (007) take place in Turkey carries a hired gun who has stolen an encrypted MI6 Hard Disk that contains the identity of their deep cover agents. Bond must retrieve the disk before the information goes public. The case is relentlessly exciting, As it is finished, you breathe a sigh of relief, while the amazing opening credits start to play. Relief because you realize that not only can Sam Mendes direct action, he can look beautiful.
Skyfall begins like
any other Bond films. He meets M. He gets a mission. He goes off to exotic
places, and sleep with a beautiful woman. But after those first trips to Turkey and Shanghai and Macao, Skyfall
stop touring and returns to London, still in Britain for the rest of the film. There are plenty of memorable action, including a barnstorming finale, but Skyfall afraid
to intersperse it with scenes of literary dialogue and emotions. Action is
always in the service of his story.
Skyfalls plot is
refreshingly simple. The head of MI6, M, comes under political pressure to
retire during a meeting with the Intelligence and Security Committee Chairman,
Gareth Mallory. On her return from the meeting, MI6 is hacked and an explosion
occurs in the offices, killing a number of MI6 employees. Bond, learns of the
attack and returns to London. Shrapnel taken from his earlier shoulder wound
helps identify Patrice, and Bond tracks the mercenary to Shanghai.
And Bardem would
undoubtedly steal the movie if it was not for another definition of performance
of Daniel Craig as James Bond.
Cloudburst really gives him the opportunity to showcase his ability as a great
actor. He's brutal when it should be, and charming and suave, when the
situation arises. But it's those icy blue eyes Craig any opening credits
poignant. Bond reminds those around him
that sometimes you need a man able to pull the trigger, reminding the audience
that Skyfall Bond films can still be relevant. His performance suggests, but
never fully reveals the emptiness of the character and why he compulsively
flirting with death and self-destruction.
The Film does not
escape criticism, with reviews indicate its two and a half hour running time,
and a third act that could not match the first two on the fly as the underlying
flaws in the film, Former James Bond actor Sir Roger Moore praised the film, claiming
that the film would go a long way toward convincing the public that Daniel
Craig will rob Sean Connery in defining the role of James Bond .
Sam Mendes brings
Bond rolling back with a smart, sexy, riveting action thriller that qualifies
as one of the top 007 films so far. Most fans of Bond will absolutely love
it. a flawlessly assembled thrill ride with a cast to die for and a
nakedly emotional undertow.
The 50th anniversary
of Bond is being celebrated in many ways this year, but Sam Mendes may have
found the perfect way to pay tribute to this enduring icon of popular culture.
