Plot
Chasing Mavericks is based on the life of surfer Jay Moriarity. In the course of Moriarty's training, the two surfers form a unique friendship.
Chasing Mavericks Review
Chasing Mavericks offers some spectacular cinematic imitation of surfing experience, but filling the mold with Paint By Numbers plot beats and characters, thankfully fixed direction and chemistry between the leads makes everything easier to swallow. Finally, do the real ending to Jay Moriarity story which is covered in the epilogue add an unexpected touch of poignancy in the case.
But even with everything working in its favor, distinguishes this film never beyond the level reached by other inspirational genre fare meant to be all-inclusive for family audiences. Chasing Mavericks invites cynicism in that sense, but its done with enough sincerity to avoid being so readily available as this description suggests.
