Plot
A town is thrown into chaos after a shooting that leaves five dead. What at first seems a simple matter to solve complicated when the defendant requests that Jack Reacher be put on the case.
"One shot, one kill" is the military sniper creed. A gunman fires in a rush hour crowd, murdered five victims with six shots. The evidence leads police to James Barr, a former army sniper. He has been arrested, but only say two things to the police: "'They got the wrong guy" and "on" Get Jack Reacher for me. " '"Reacher is a former military police officer, a drifter with no job, no car, no house, but with a sharp moral clarity in a modern climate of moral ambiguity. When Barr and Reacher were both in the military, Barr murdered four people during the Gulf War, like the recent shootout, and Barr had been free on a technicality. Reacher swore that he would track down the sniper, if he ever tried it again.
Reacher think Barr is guilty, but Barr's sister Rosemary is convinced her brother is innocent, verve young defense attorney Helen Rodin against her DA . Father and a prosecution team that has a secret of his own. When Reacher arrives, Barr has been beaten so badly he can not remember anything about the day of the murder, leaving Reacher to form its own conclusions. Reacher knows the shooter missed one shot intentionally, giving Reacher one shot at the truth. Reacher goes to sniper practice range and learn some facts from Samuel Cash, the former United States Marine who own shooting range, which makes him doubt guilty airtight case against Barr. Cash is prepared primarily for information or data to reveal to Reacher, but later shows him 32 sheets of paper of three years of target practice Barr's in his range, each plate with dead-on maximum scores.
Cash Reacher adds information to the case and to prove his weapons knowledge. Helen and Rosemary also analyze the tracks and help convince Reacher that Barr could be innocent, which means that any set up Barr as a sniper. Someone tries Reacher also get the case as he gets closer to the unseen enemy pulling the strings. During the investigation Reacher clashes with a Russian gang, disguised as legitimate businessmen. Gang capo's spent most of his life in the notorious Soviet Gulag and is known only as The Zec. Reacher is at his best under extreme stress and during battles, mob lure guards in the Russian league fortress, effectively and brutally send five hoods before confronting the boss and force him to come clean on the whole scam and installation.
